Cold Pressed Oil Market in 2026: Why More Mills Are Switching from Hot to Cold
The global cold pressed oil market is projected to grow at roughly 6% per year through 2026, and the premium over refined oil keeps widening. For small and mid-size mills, this is no longer a niche health-food trend — it is the clearest path to better margins.
What buyers actually pay for is the label. A 1-liter bottle of cold pressed walnut oil sells for 2 to 4 times the price of hot pressed walnut oil in European and North American specialty stores. The same multiple applies to camellia, almond, flaxseed and pumpkin seed oil. The oil inside is almost the same chemically; the difference is how it was extracted and what the consumer believes that means.
Cold pressing keeps the oil temperature below 60°C during extraction. This preserves natural antioxidants, vitamin E and the subtle flavor compounds that heat destroys. For high-value oils like walnut and camellia, this is the selling point. A hot pressed version of the same oil is simply not comparable on the shelf.
The catch is yield. Cold pressing typically extracts 5 to 10 percent less oil from the same seed. For low-value commodity oils like soybean or rapeseed, that lost yield cancels out the price premium. But for premium oils, the price difference is so large that the lower yield is still more profitable. This is why more of our customers are running two lines: hot press for volume, cold press for margin.

Any hydraulic press can cold press — you simply skip the roasting step and press the raw seed directly. The important thing is to use a press with enough force, because cold seed is harder and needs higher cake pressure to release its oil. Our HN365, HN426 and HN500 models are the ones most cold press mills choose. If you are planning a cold press line, tell us your target oil and daily output and we will confirm the right model and send a test video.
